The Redwood Empire Fair in Ukiah and the Mendocino County Fair and Apple Show in Boonville are usually held in September, and the Lake County Fair takes place Labor Day weekend. These fairs provide opportunities for members to demonstrate their accomplishments and win recognition. Members in K-3rd grade may show in the still exhibits and the small animal divisions. Members starting in the 4th grade, or nine years old by January 1 of the current 4-H year, may enroll in large animal projects and may enter these animals in the fairs subject to each fair's rules as printed in their Premium Books.

Junior Livestock Auction: the culmination of a year of livestock management by 4-H and FFA members. The young men and women who participate in the auction have selected, fed, and groomed a steer, lamb, hog, goat, pen of rabbits, and/or pen of poultry. They exhibit them at the Fair, where the animals are judged and graded. Only top-grade livestock are sold at the Saturday auction. Click to download the 2009 Junior Livestock Auction pamphlet.
